Dog Friendly Wine Tasting in Sonoma

Sonoma has over 150 wineries open to the public all year long (well, not during Covid, of course) and most of the wineries are kid and dog friendly. It is, however, a good idea to make sure to check if wineries you’re going to visit offer a comfortable amenities for you and the dogs.

I put together a list of 10 Sonoma Wineries that are perfectly suited for dog friendly wine tasting adventure.

Anaba

Surrounded by vineyards, the renovated farmhouse tasting room is located in the Carneros AVA. The spacious patio allows for guests to enjoy a seated tasting at one of the many bistro tables overlooking the vineyard and there is plenty of room to keep the dogs in the shade and away from other guests.

Buena Vista Carneros Estate

Located 5 minute drive from Sonoma Plaza, the winery’s park-like setting is perfect for a wine tasting getaway with the dogs. Stroll up the narrow road, surrounded by overgrown trees, until you reach the tasting room and large picnic area.

Cline Cellars

The farmhouse has an old-fashioned wrap-around porch with outdoor seating and views of the ponds. There are numerous picnic tables and places to explore. Inside the tasting room is a well-stocked gift shop and snacks for picnics.

Their humble winery and tasting room is in Kenwood, and is typically staffed by one of the Kaz’s. It is located in their barn with a koi pond in the back. The cozy space is dog and kid friendly.

Korbel Champagne Cellars

Korbel Champagne Cellars is located near Guerneville along the Russian River. Tucked in among giant redwood trees is the historic winery. Korbel offers  a fully stocked gourmet market, gift shop, and picnic area.

Kunde Family Estate

The tasting bar offers regular and reserve wine tasting, where your glass is your souvenir. Free tours are given on the hour on weekends and at 11am on weekdays. Special four-hour hiking tours of the 1,850 estate acres are offered from spring through fall.

Unique Amenities: DOG HIKES WITH JEFF AND ROBERTA KUNDE

Join 4th Generation Winegrower Jeff Kunde, his wife Roberta, and their dogs Cooper and Kalie, for a hike through the breathtaking Kunde Estate.  Enjoy a day with your pup as you hike through vineyard rows, oak woodlands, native grasslands and chaparral as you weave your way along paths that stretch from the valley floor up into the Mayacamas Mountain range.  Along the way, you’ll learn about Kunde Family Winery’s sustainable winegrowing and winemaking practices – from grape to glass. This moderately strenuous hike lasts for approximately 4 hours, concluding with a much-deserved wine tasting and wine country lunch.
A portion of the fee for the Dog Hike will be donated to Dogwood Animal Rescue Project and Sonoma County Humane Society, both programs which rescue and rehabilitate abandoned or neglected animals.
Reservations and Planning:
  • The tour fee is $90/person.  There is no wine club member discount.
  • Hike time is 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • All dogs must be on leash
  • Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
  • A wine tasting and wine country lunch is included in the hike and fee
  • All human attendees must be 21 or older

 

Pellegrini Family Vineyard

Pellegrini has a beautiful state-of-the-art winery located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, 10 minutes off Highway 101 on the 65-acre Olivet Lane Vineyard. The tasting room is located in the winery barrel room.  They offer complimentary winery and vineyard tours and wine tasting every day.

Sbragia

Owner Ed Sbragia has had the idea for creating a small, family-owned winery making limited, individual lots of wine from grapes grown in select blocks of his favorite vineyards. “I’ve always had one foot in Sonoma and the other in Napa. Both areas mean a lot to me emotionally. I’m more attached to Dry Creek because it’s where I raised my kids.”

Viansa

At the southern end of Sonoma’s Carneros region, is the destination winery and marketplace of Viansa. Celebrating everything Italian, this 90-acre estate has it all –  a classic Tuscan villa with abundant gardens, hilltop picnic sites, olive trees and vineyards, an Italian marketplace, private outlooks and scenic views.
