A Day in Petaluma Guide

Petaluma is a small Sonoma County city with its own AVA and amazing wine, upscale restaurants, breweries, good hotels, historic landmarks, and lots of nature to explore! It’s located 37 miles north of San Francisco.

Where to eat:

Street Social is a new addition to Petaluma food scene (opened in January 2020), and is the most amazing experience you can ask for! Located in Downtown Petaluma, Street Social is a small 8ish table restaurant ran by a wife and husband team. They source local ingredients and support Petaluma farms. The menu is unique and very Michelin Star ready. It changed daily if not weekly so it’s always an exciting moment to see what new dish you can try here!

The Shuckery is a more casual restaurant focused on seafood and local ingredients. They have a great selection of oysters, fish as well as pasta and burger. Pop in for a happy hour or romantic dinner, you won’t be disappointed.

Central Market is an upscale spot in downtown features pizzas and pastas, wood grilled steaks and large wine list to go with dinner service. You can choose from the menu or go for a 3, 4 or 5 course chef’s tasting menu to try the best of the best.


Where to Wine Taste:

Adobe Road Wine offers wine by glass as well as tastings ($20 for select 4 wines or $30 for reserve tasting option). The menu is focused mainly on the Sonoma vineyards, Dry Creek AVA, and Napa Valley.

Barber Cellars located in the Petaluma Hotel next to the Shuckery is your perfect stop for a glass or two. Barber Cellars is dedicated to the single vineyard wines from Sonoma County.


Where to Drink:

Brewsters is an upscale beer garden where you can come in enjoy beer, wine and custom cocktails. Brewsters is perfect for lunch groups and celebrations as well as a quick bite by the bar. You will love the large outdoor patio where the dogs are allowed and drinks are flowing.

Whisper Sistersis a beautiful lounge with extraordinary cocktails, comfy couches and snack menu. Walk in are welcome but for parties over 10 people, call ahead. This space is small and intimate. UPDATE: they have announce the closure due to COVID-19.


Where to stay:

Hotel Petaluma located in Downtown Petaluma and is a home to The Shuckery and Barber Cellars. How convenient is that?! With access to amazing food and drinks right there, you’re also a short drive from all Sonoma wineries, hiking and beaches. Hotel Petaluma is newly remodeled, modern and offer great amenities.

Sheraton Sonoma County is located on the East side of Petaluma facing a beautiful marina and is a mile away from downtown. It’s dog friendly in case you’re traveling with your dogs. It has a cute lounge/bar area, outdoor pool and it’s near Sonoma wineries and Smart Train.



Get Outside:

Shollenberger Park – an easy 2 mile loop on the East Side of Petaluma. It’s dog friendly, flat and beautiful.

Helen Putnam Regional Park – is the best hiking spot near downtown. You can choose from multiple trails from a 1 mile loop to a 10 mile adventure.
